Your relationship should ideally feel like a port in the storm of life. There are many reasons people struggle to have satisfying, secure and loving relationships. Poor communication, challenging relationship histories, different paradigms around what relationships look like and other factors can erode your relationship foundation leading to disconnection. Couples counseling can help you and your partner learn to take responsibility for your roles to be the best you can be for each other.
A challenge with emotional safety is often at the core of troubled relationships. I help people learn to build trust, clear out resentments and learn the tools needed to have a healthier attachment.
People are complicated and multi-layered, a compilation of personal historical experiences and the ways they’ve experienced relationships in the past which is often very relevant to how they function in the present. Some couples come to therapy with a lot of clarity around the work they each feel needs to be done but possibly not. They just know it’s not working.
And some couples report to do pretty well together but want to tune up their relationship like you might a car. They would rather take care of their relationship before it breaks down.

I find relationship health and emotional health deeply connected. If you or your partner are struggling emotionally in some way, it’s expected that it could negatively impact your dynamic together. It’s important to address any related issues as well.
